Ukrainian forces have reportedly made another major breach of Russian defenses in southern Ukraine, where enemy forces have held commanding heights.
Ivan Fedorov, the Ukrainian mayor of Melitopol, said this in a post on the Telegram messaging app, Ukrinform reports.
“There are hits in temporarily occupied Tokmak,” he wrote. Fedorov added that according to locals, civilians had been injured due to the work of Russian air defenses.
Ukraine’s 46th and 82nd Airborne Brigades, advancing south of Verbove, appear to have inflicted heavy losses on Russia’s “crack” 76th Air Assault Division.
The Russian paratroopers have taken to social media in recent days to complain of a “breakthrough” and saying they were being “killed like partridges at a shooting range”
Earlier reports said that in the Zaporizhzhia sector, Ukrainian forces continued their offensive operation near Verbove, Zaporizhzhia region, pushing the enemy out of their positions and entrenching themselves on the occupied lines.
