Russia launched a large-scale air attack on Ukraine’s western region of Lviv and the northwestern region of Volyn, killing at least three people and wounding scores of others, officials said.

Three people were killed and several hospitalized in Lutsk after a business enterprise was hit, Yuriy Pohulyaiko, governor the Volyn region of which Lutsk is the administrative centre, said on the Telegram messaging app.

The Volyn region borders Nato-member Poland to its west.

There were no casualties in Russia’s air attack on the western region of Lviv, according to preliminary information, but more than 100 residential houses were damaged and a kindergarten playground was destroyed.

According to Ukrainian Air Force, at least 28 cruise missiles that were launched at targets in Ukraine last night only 16 Kh-101/555 air-launched cruise missiles were able to be shot down by air defense batteries; this means that at least 4 Kh-22 anti-ship missiles launched by Tu-22M3 Bombers, 4 Kh-101/555 cruise missiles launched by Tu-95M bombers and 4 3M54-1 “Kalibr” cruise missiles launched by a Russian Frigate in the Black Sea were able to successfully strike their targets.

The Russian missile attack tonight appears to have been one of the most significant to the western regions of Ukraine since the first few months of the war with between 3-5 missiles reported to have successfully struck the Lviv region, at least 1 having struck a infrastructure target within the city of Lutsk in the Volyn region, and a number of missiles striking an airbase in the Ivano-Frankivsk region.

There were also at least 5 successful strikes in central Ukraine tonight as well, specifically in the Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, and Cherkasy Regions.
