A 36 year old man who is suspected to be an Israeli intelligence agent was arrested by Malaysian Police from a hotel along Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.

The Israeli man was arrested by police on March 27 by a team from Bukit Aman and Kuala Lumpur CID.

IG Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the arrest has put the Royal Malaysia Police on high alert.

“With the situation in Palestine and Israel, we need to be cautious in terms of security.”

“This includes the security of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as well as other dignitaries,” he told reporters at the Masjid Al-Amin at the General Operations Force Central Brigade Headquarters.

“Based on our checks, the man entered Malaysia via French passport. Upon further investigation, the suspect then handed over an Israeli passport. The suspect claims that he entered the country to hunt down and kill a fellow Israeli over a family dispute,” Razarudin said.

Police also seized six pistols and 200 bullets from the man.

The IG Police also told the press that authorities are not taking him at his word and do not rule the possibility of him having another agenda.

He added that police investigations were focused on the possibility that the suspect is an Isreali intelligence agent.

A Malaysian married couple were arrested for allegedly supplying firearms to the suspected Israeli intelligence agent. The police said they do not rule out the possibility that more Malaysians are involved in the case.

The couple, who are in their 40s, were arrested at a Ramadan bazaar in Kuala Selangor, the local media reported. The Malaysian police expected to seek a remand order on the couple for further investigations.

Another local man believed to be the driver of the alleged Israeli spy was arrested in Cameron Highlands in Pahang state after the Israeli was detained, the local media reported.

Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad has been suspected of operating in Malaysia in the past.

In 2018, Palestinian electrical engineer Fadi Mohammed al-Batsh, a member of Hamas, was gunned down by two motorcyclists in Kuala Lumpur.

In Oct 2022, a Palestinian computer engineer believed to be linked with Hamas was kidnapped from Kuala Lumpur and interrogated by Mossad agents at a remote Selangor chalet.

Malaysia, which does not have diplomatic ties with Israel, has traditionally expressed strong support for the Palestinians, including in the ongoing war in Gaza. Malaysia is among countries who doesn’t labelled Hamas as a terrorist organization despite immense pressure from US.
