Mexico City – Mexico’s defense ministry said that the 16 soldiers who were involved in executing five civilians last month have been arrested. The soldiers were filmed beating and then shooting five men.
A video dated 18 May from the northern state of Tamaulipas was published by media outlets last Tuesday. Video shows the soldiers surrounding a truck after crashed into a wall. The soldiers in the video were also seen pulling the five men out and beating them with kicks and punches before pushing them against a wall.
A military court following this publication issued an arrest warrant last Thursday against 16 military personnel involved in crimes contrary to military discipline and for violating the military code. Mexican president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador declared these killings as execution at a press conference earlier this week.
